Chapter 68 - 68 Protection
“Drink some hot water to warm your body.” Lin Jia poured two cups of hot water and found a blanket for Yin Tao to wrap herself in.
“Thank you, Brother Lin Jia.” Yin Tao sat on the sofa with a blanket draped over her shoulders and took small sips of hot water.
Lin Jia looked at the two people on the sofa and felt a headache coming on. He asked Feng Jing, “What’s going on today? The black market has been in chaos for so long, why did Captain Feng decide to be an undercover agent today?”
!!
“I’m not being an undercover agent. There’s a case that might be related to the black market.” Feng Jing also took a sip of water and looked at Lin Jia as he said slowly, “I suspect that the black market is selling human organs.”
Lin Jia’s expression was a little solemn. He sighed and said, “There’s nothing we can do. After so many years, we still don’t know who’s protecting them. Even if we can catch them, we can’t find any evidence. The mayor has also spent a lot of effort on the suburbs, adding street lights and surveillance cameras. We can’t find any clues at all.”
“It’s not easy to overthrow the dark forces of the black market. The police have also planted undercover agents. However, the case this time is a little tricky. I’m afraid we won’t be able to find any clues unless we go deep into the black market.” Feng Jing felt that the death of Sun Peng, the biggest suspect in the dismemberment case, must be related to the black market.
“Even then you shouldn’t have brought Sister Xiaotao, you are playing with fire. What kind of place is the black market? What if you really encounter danger? You are tough, but how old is Sister Xiaotao? She’s not the same as you!” Lin Jia’s tone was a little like that of an elder.
Feng Jing wasn’t upset. He only said in a low voice, “I will protect her.”
Looking at Lin Jia and Feng Jing, Yin Tao felt that their relationship was enviable. The two of them could speak candidly and also go to each other’s homes freely.
“Brother Lin Jia, I’m really fine.” Yin Tao smiled as she looked at Lin Jia and Feng Jing.
“Hey, I’ll take you to the guest room upstairs to rest. It’ll be dawn soon. If there’s anything else, we’ll talk tomorrow.” Lin Jia looked at the time. It was already two in the morning.
“Wait, there’s another person.” Feng Jing thought of Ji Yu, who was still checking the situation outside, and said to Lin Jia, “A young police officer will come in after surveying the surroundings.”
“If I’m harmed one day, it will definitely have something to do with you!” Lin Jia glared at Feng Jing and said to Yin Tao, “Little Sister Xiaotao, remember that Feng Jing is not trustworthy. I’ve known him for more than ten years. He has done nothing other than to harm me. He has never done me any good.”
“What good do you want?” Feng Jing smiled and asked Lin Jia, “Do you want money or women? Tell me so that I can satisfy you next time.”
Lin Jia noticed Yin Tao who was sniggering at the side and wanted to throw Feng Jing out of the house.
After Ji Yu came in, Lin Jia arranged the three of them in the guest rooms.
The next morning, Yin Tao was woken up by the alarm on her phone. After all, she was staying at Lin Jia’s house and didn’t dare to wake up too late.
As she tiptoed down the stairs, Yin Tao saw Lin Jia sitting on the sofa reading some documents, and a maid in her forties cooking in the kitchen.
“Good morning, Brother Lin Jia.”
Seeing Yin Tao coming down from upstairs, Lin Jia got up from the sofa and smiled gently at her. “Why didn’t you sleep a little longer? You went to bed so late yesterday.”
“Four hours of sleep is fine. In the past, when I was busy with work, I have even stayed up for two consecutive nights.” Yin Tao was telling the truth. In the past, she often stayed up late to deal with corpses, especially corpses related to criminal cases. The sooner she provided the autopsy reports, the earlier the police might solve the case. Yin Tao only wanted to be able to contribute toward solving the case.
“This job is too tough for girls.” After Lin Jia finished speaking, he immediately explained, “I don’t think your job is bad. I just think that you’ve really put in a lot of effort that ordinary people can’t.”
“I understand.” Yin Tao smiled and said to Lin Jia, “It’s just that I really like this job and I cherish it. Being able to solve one difficult case after another gives me a great sense of accomplishment. I’m also happy to help the police solve cases.”
Lin Jia felt that Yin Tao looked even more adorable now. Maintaining a passion for one’s career wasn’t an easy feat. For Yin Tao to think this way, she was already more outstanding than many people.
